Discover the Basotho Hat: A Free Cultural Craft
Looking for a meaningful craft that goes beyond coloring and cutting?
Let your child explore the beauty of Lesotho’s mountain culture through one of its most powerful symbols: the Mokorotlo, or Basotho hat.
This free printable activity sheet from Global Sprouts introduces your child to the national hat of Lesotho—a woven, cone-shaped hat that represents protection, heritage, and pride for the Basotho people.
🏔 What Is the Basotho Hat?
The Mokorotlo is a traditional woven hat worn in Lesotho, a small country high in the mountains of southern Africa. It’s shaped like a peak—just like the famous mountains of Lesotho—and often worn during celebrations, farming, or while riding a Basotho pony.
You can even spot it on Lesotho’s flag—that’s how important it is!
At Global Sprouts, we worked with our Cultural Ambassador, Bongiswa, to bring this tradition to life in your child’s hands.
