DRIVING QUESTION:
How do Venezuela’s landscapes, animals, and traditions make the country unique?
INTRODUCTION:
This month your child will explore Venezuela, a colorful country in South America filled with rainforests, rivers, beaches, and mountains.
In this adventure, children travel with Globee and meet new friends Mariana and Diego. Along the journey they discover bright macaws flying through the sky, giant tabletop mountains called tepuis, the Orinoco River, and the famous Angel Falls.
Children will also learn Spanish words, explore animals that live in the jungle and river, discover Venezuelan music played on the cuatro guitar, and try a traditional snack called catalinas cookies.
Children learn best through play, conversation, and hands-on exploration, so encourage your child to ask questions, repeat new Spanish words, and talk about what they notice.
Parent Tip:
Pause during the lesson and ask questions like:
-
What colors do you see in the macaws?
-
What do you think a waterfall sounds like?
-
How might animals live in the jungle or river?
These conversations help children build observation and language skills.
DEVELOPMENT:
The Venezuela adventure introduces children to a country filled with diverse ecosystems and vibrant culture.
Children will explore the jungles, mountains, rivers, and beaches of Venezuela while learning about animals like macaws, crocodiles, and pink river dolphins.
They will also practice Spanish vocabulary, trace numbers, identify landscapes, and complete creative activities such as coloring animals, building scenes with stickers, and playing interactive games.
Cooking and music also play an important role in the learning experience. Children will learn how families in Venezuela enjoy foods like arepas and catalinas cookies and discover how music from instruments like the cuatro guitar fills celebrations with rhythm and joy.
Sensory Learning Ideas:
Young children learn best through hands-on exploration. You can extend the lessons by:
-
Listening to Latin music or guitar sounds while learning about the cuatro
-
Creating a jungle sensory bin with leaves, toy animals, and rocks
-
Pretending to travel to Angel Falls in an airplane with Globee
-
Baking catalinas cookies together and smelling the cinnamon and spices
